Africa-Press – Nigeria. The head coach of the DR Congo national team, Sebastien Desabre, has claimed they deserve to play in the 2026 World Cup intercontinental play-off.
The Leopards needed penalties to see off the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the final of the African play-offs.
Desabre has now praised his players, insisting they have earned their place through years of work and resilience.
He told FIFA: ““It’s about everything we’ve been through together – the highs and the lows.
“Those experiences have made us stronger and more resilient, and they’ve led us to this point.
“After all the hard work the players and the staff have put in over the last three years, they’ve thoroughly earned it.”
DR Congo will take on Jamaica or New Caledonia for a place at the World Cup.
