Africa-Press – Nigeria. Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to order the unconditional release of Igbo youths allegedly detained across Nigeria without trial.

In a post shared on X on Saturday, Ejimakor expressed concern over what he described as the continued detention of “thousands of Igbo youths” on suspicion of belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra.

He said, “All people of conscience should urge President Tinubu to direct the unconditional release of the thousands of IGBO youths detained without trial across Nigeria on the mere suspicion that they’re IPOB.”

The lawyer argued that those in custody deserve their freedom, stressing that prolonged detention without due process undermines justice and the rule of law.

Ejimakor’s comment comes amid ongoing debates over security operations in the South-East and allegations of arbitrary arrests linked to the proscribed separatist group.

He, however, maintained that due process must be upheld, insisting that suspects should either be charged to court or released.

IPOB was listed by the Federal Government among financiers of terrorism in Nigeria; however, Ejimakor faulted the designation.
