Africa-Press-Nigeria The adoption of rotating the presidential seat in Nigeria is a tradition introduced by the countries major Political Parties since the return of Democratic rule in Nigeria in 1999.
The two major Contenders of the number one position at that time were from the South western part of the Country : former president Olusegun Obasanjo from PDP- Peoples Democratic Party. And Chief Olu Falaye that Contested under an alliance of All People Party APP and AD Alliance for Democracy.
President Obasanjo of PDP worn the election and after two tenure of eight years PDP zoned the Presidential Postion to the North with Late President Umaru Musa Yaradua as its Candidate and the current Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari as the main opposition ANPP candidate.
During the 2015 election PDP ‘s Candidate was the incumbent President Jonathan and President Buhari as the main opposition candidate.
The election which turn Nigeria’s Political History as the opposition party won the presidential election that produce Buhari as Nigeria’s President after several attempt.
Since then the rotation of the presidential Position became part of Nigeria’s Political system Particularly among the major Political Parties
As 2023 election is past approaching Politicians begins to make moves on who will succeed president Buhari.
The two main Political Parties APC and PDP are full of Presidential aspirant from the North and South.
The ruling Party APC is in the process of selecting the National Executives as it conducted State Congresses recently.
The main Presidential contenders under APC are two prominant Politicians from the South West : National leader of the Party Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo.
Others are Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello from North Central.
While Peoples Democratic Party PDP as the main opposition have conducted its National Congress as it elected Former Senate President Iyochia Ayo as National Chairman from the North Central.
PDP has many Presidential aspirants from both North and South.
The Most Popular among them are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Former Senate President Bukula Saraki, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal , Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammad ,Former Kano State Governor Rabi’u Kwankaso and Rivers State Governor Nyeson Wike.
In a recent Interview with Arise Tv Former Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sunusi the Second said What Nigeria needs as President is Conpntitant Leader regardless of his region or State.
The former CBN Governor added that the Nigerian Constitution has no Provision for rotational President.
