AFCON 2021: Eguavoen bows to pressure from Okocha, gives Iwobi new position

Africa-Press – Nigeria. Interim coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen, appears to have bowed to pressure from his former international team-mate, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, over Alex Iwobi’s position in the team.

Eguavoen has so far played Iwobi off the wings at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

But after the 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau in their last Group D fixture, Okocha said his nephew was better playing off the main striker.

But in training ahead of their round of 16 clash with Tunisia, Iwobi played as a no.10 behind striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

The session lasted for one hour, as Eguavoen drilled his team in preparation for Sunday’s game.

However, it is not confirmed yet, if indeed Iwobi who replaced Samuel Chukwueze in training, will start against Tunisia.
