Africa-Press – Nigeria.  Kenya is the Eastern African Country with largest Population in the sub region .

Recently the Country conducted it’s Presidential election which produces the Vice President Williams Rutu as the new president.

History of Presidential Election in Kenya since Independence

Since Kenya got its independence in the year 1963, it has had four presidents, starting from its first president Jomo Kenyatta who happened to be the father of the current president.

The late Jomo Kenyatta gave up power in 1978 to Kenya’s second President, Mr. Daniel Arap Moi Moi who was the longest serving Kenya president that served for 24 years.

He was in power from 1978 till 2002 when he handed over to Mr. Mwai Kibaki.

Kibaki also served till 2013 when he handed over to the out going president Uhuru Kenyatta, who came in as the 4th president of Kenya.

The historic Kenyan Presidential election that took place on 9th August this year can be described as a mile stone to Kenyan Democracy which is worthy of emulation to other African Countries

Four Contestants struggled for the Kenyan number one Seat .

Among them are the main opposition leader Raila Odinga who had the spportt of president Kenyata, the Deputy President Williams Ruto ,Professor George Wajackoyah and Devid Waihiga.

But the main battle was between Odinga and Ruto who won the election despite president Kenyata’s objection against him.

What lessons will Nigeria learn from Kenyan election

In February next year 2023 Nigeria will conduct a General election that will produce the next President.

Moses Oluwaga who is a research Professor at Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic research Bayero University Kano said Kenyan election is a plus to Africa and Kenya as the election was peaceful ,free and fair .

He stated that the lessons Nigeria should learned from Kenya is way that Kenyan Government respect the rule of law and give free hand to electorates wills and maintain security during the election unlike during the previous elections that were erupted by violence.

Professor Mosses added that Nigeria should also learn from how Kenyan Government give the Country’s electoral body free hand in handling the election.

The researcher also called on Nigerians to learn from the way Kenyans massively voted for their choice with out any violence or rigging.

Professor Oluwaga added that Kenyan election shown that African Democracy have come of age as the election was accepted by the majority of Kenyans even though Odinga have taken the matter to court .

” Nigeria should learn from Kenya during 2023 elections ,so that we can have Peaceful election which will be accepted by all Citizens”.

He also urged Security Agencies to learn from their Kenyan counterparts as there was no report of security interference on the process of the election.
