The Federal Government on Sunday ordered foreign miners to quit mining sites in Zamfara State and its environs with immediate effect.
It also said that mining activities in the state has been suspended in order to restrain the activities of armed banditry in the state.
Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who spoke with State House correspondents at the presidential villa Abuja, said any foreign miner that continues mining activities would have his license revoked.
According to Adamu, there was a nexus between activities of the bandits and illicit miners, even as he promised that a combined team of security forces will now be dispatched to the area.
There have been a lot of attacks and killings in some communities in Zamfara State which have been attributed to bandits operating in the area.
