Africa-Press – Nigeria. FDH Financial Holdings Limited has unveiled the Thomson Frank Mpinganjira (TFM) Centre of Excellence, a state-of-the-art leadership development facility located in Mpemba, Blantyre, which is set to nurture world-class leaders.
The centre is set to become the country’s hub for leadership training and innovation and features a fully completed administration block with executive boardrooms, modern conference facilities, advanced internet and computer rooms, among other facilities.
During a media tour on Wednesday, FDH Head of Marketing and Communication Levi Nkunika said the institution would transform how Malawi develops leaders across both the public and private sector.
“We’re partnering international universities to bring in some of the latest courses that are changing lives and making greater global impact elsewhere. We want them to be here in Malawi,” Nkunika said
Nkunika highlighted that localising leadership development would help the country reduce its dependence on international institutions, thereby saving foreign exchange.
“We, as a country, have been relying on international facilities. In the medium to long term, we’re going to save forex as international leadership courses will now be offered here.
“Moreover, we’ll attract foreign currency by welcoming international leaders to train in Malawi,” he said
He underscored the importance of locally developed programmes that respond better to local challenges.
“Local investment ensures that profits stay within the country and boost economic growth. I think it’s very important that we, as Malawians, take ownership of our country and invest in it,” he said
Nkunika also expressed optimism about Malawi’s broader economic prospects, despite ongoing challenges.
“Malawi is an economy that is growing. There are a lot of opportunities. Sometimes people tend to focus on what’s not working. But as you can see, we’re looking at what’s working. A lot of, I think, unexploited opportunities are there,” he said.
In its next development phase, the TFM Centre will introduce hostels, a recreational centre with basketball and football courts, a swimming pool and an indoor sports complex.
