Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), says the state\u2019s flood disaster in 2023 claimed three lives and injured twenty-two more.<\/p>\n

The agency said between May and October of 2023, the calamity also claimed the lives of seven animals and devastated 1,838 homes and 257 farmlands.<\/p>\n

The Executive Secretary of the agency, Abdullahi Abdullahi, stated this in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Gombe.<\/p>\n

Abdullahi said eight out of the 11 local government areas of the state experienced the disaster as against three LGAs predicted in the 2023 Flood Outlook.<\/p>\n

He listed Akko; Funakaye, Balanga, Gombe, Nafada, Kaltungo, Shongom and Yamaltu\/Deba as the worst-hit areas.<\/p>\n

The Secretary said the rains accompanied by strong windstorms ravaged farmlands causing damage to the farmers in the affected communities.<\/p>\n

The government, he said, distributed relief materials to victims of the disaster to assuage their sufferings.<\/p>\n

According to him, the state government is making an effort to expand the scope of the support services to all the affected communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cGov. Inuwa Yahaya has approved relief materials to some communities affected.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also submitted reports of flooding in the remaining communities and efforts are on to also provide relief materials to them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
