{"id":101406,"date":"2023-11-20T10:12:09","date_gmt":"2023-11-20T09:12:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/protesting-tanker-drivers-threaten-to-exit-nupeng-over-leadership-crisis"},"modified":"2023-11-20T13:33:28","modified_gmt":"2023-11-20T12:33:28","slug":"protesting-tanker-drivers-threaten-to-exit-nupeng-over-leadership-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/protesting-tanker-drivers-threaten-to-exit-nupeng-over-leadership-crisis","title":{"rendered":"Protesting tanker drivers threaten to exit NUPENG over leadership crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The crisis rocking the oil and gas transport industry members has taken another dimension as the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, an arm of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, on Sunday, threatened to pull out of NUPENG.<\/p>\n<p>PTD declared it would pull out of the oil union if NUPENG\u2019s National President, Williams Akporeha, and its General Secretary, Olawale Afolabi, failed to resign.<\/p>\n<p>The tanker drivers disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja and jointly signed by Gbenga Olawale and Adekunle Rufai of PTD, Ibadan Depot.<\/p>\n<p>They alleged that the NUPENG president lacked the required competence to lead the union because he was not a member of the oil union.<\/p>\n<p>According to them, Williams was a cook in an oil company from the formal sector and was sacked from the company while holding the office of the national treasurer of NUPENG.<\/p>\n<p>They further alleged that he was later drafted into the Petrol Station Workers Union of NUPENG to enable him to contest the election as NUPENG President.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNUPENG president lacked the competence to lead the union because he was not a member of the oil union,\u201d they claimed.<\/p>\n<p>The development comes as reported that drivers had protested against NUPENG on November 1 over the imposition of leadership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
