Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Lagos State Government has impounded and destroyed over no fewer than 150O motorcycles, also known as \u2018Okada\u2019, for violation of traffic laws.<\/p>\n

The exercise was carried out by the Ministry of Transportation at the Crush Plant, Taskforce Yard, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday.<\/p>\n

The operation was monitored by a delegation led by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Wale Musa.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Osiyemi stated that over 1,500 motorcycles impounded in the last six months were slated for crushing as part of the zero tolerance on the illegal activity.<\/p>\n

He said; \u201cOkada riders should embrace the many alternative modes of transportation provided by the government as there were plans to inject more First and Last Mile buses into the metropolis.<\/p>\n

\u201cI urge the riders to continue to stay off the roads because the crushing exercise and enforcement will be sustained.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no going back because it\u2019s government policy and the government does not joke about its decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n
