Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has sacked the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n

The Speaker was the member representing Makera Constituency.<\/p>\n

The appellate court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of Return given to the Speaker and conduct fresh elections in five polling units.<\/p>\n

The judgment followed a petition by Solomon Katuka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) .<\/p>\n

The PDP candidate argued that there were gross irregularities regarding the selection of the Speaker, stating that he won the election.<\/p>\n

The tribunal had on 30th September, 2023 nullified the Speaker\u2019s election and ordered a rerun in 42 polling units in five wards.<\/p>\n

Dissatisfied with the judgment, Liman filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal.<\/p>\n

The three-member panel in a unanimous decision quashed the decision of the tribunal ordering a rerun in 42 polling units.<\/p>\n

The Appeal Court, however, ordered a rerun in five polling units.<\/p>\n
