Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asked Lauretta Onochie, an aide of President Muhammadu Buhari, for an apology and N500million for defamation.<\/p>\n
The Cable reports that in a letter dated Tuesday, May 14 and addressed to Onochie by Mike Ozekhome (SAN), his lawyer, Atiku threatened to commence a N2 billion suit against her if she did not meet his demands.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, May 7, Onochie had tweeted that Atikuwas on a United Arab Emirates (UAE) watch list.<\/p>\n
Atiku asked Onochie to publish a retraction in six national newspapers and one international daily as well as on social media.<\/p>\n
Part of the letter read: \u201cYour odious publication is clearly also aimed at rubbishing our client\u2019s image and reputation<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has caused him national and international backlash and embarrassment and done incalculable damage to him.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour publication has also caused our client, in the eyes of reasonable members of the public, unspeakable odium, obloquy, hatred, ridicule and psychological trauma.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has thereby been subjected to the shame and infamy of being viewed by members of the public as not only corrupt, but as a terrorist and sponsor of terrorism.<\/p>\n
\u201cNumerous telephone calls, emails, visits, letters and private social media chats by his family members, friends, political and business associates, and international statesmen and women in the last few days attest to the alarm and serious concerns generated by your false publication.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the PDP has advised President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop posturing as if they truly have the mandate of Nigerians for a second tenure.<\/p>\n
The party in a statement sent to Legit.ng by its national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, on Tuesday, May 14, accused the presidency of rigging the 2019 presidential election and trying to use another promise of true federalism to get legitimacy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
