Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Former Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, has said that President Bola Tinubu\u2019s intervention is not needed in the ongoing political crisis in Ondo and Rivers states.<\/p>\n

Fashola stated this over the weekend at the Nigerian Air Force Officers Mess\u2019 Honorary Members Forum (HMF) 2023 Annual Lecture in Lagos, saying the constitution doesn\u2019t give room for such.<\/p>\n

He said that despite calls for the president to get involved, the Constitution clearly outlines the proper procedures and roles of officials in such situations.<\/p>\n

The former minister hailed the \u201cblue blood Ondo indigenes\u201d who pushed for law and constitutionality in their state\u2019s recent crisis before the governor\u2019s letter restored calm.<\/p>\n

\u201cHappily, in our Ondo case, some blue-blood Ondo indigenes have stood up to be counted. But they are in an obvious minority,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The ex-Lagos governor noted that going forward, the \u201cleadership in Rivers State\u201d similarly needs to \u201cdo the needful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fashola explained that citizens must also be accountable, rather than improperly demanding presidential action.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have amended the constitution, so what is left to amend, except ourselves?\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
