Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Former Kaduna lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has expressed sadness over the death of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Ghali Umar Na\u2019abba.<\/p>\n

Na\u2019abba passed on in the early hours of Wednesday at the age of 65 after battling an undisclosed illness.<\/p>\n

Reacting, Sani in a post on his official X handle, declared that the deceased saved Nigeria\u2019s democracy when he was in power.<\/p>\n

Describing the death as a great loss to Nigerians, Sani revealed that while the deceased was in office, he thwarted moves by some politicians to expunge term limits for governors and presidents from the Nigerian constitution.<\/p>\n

He wrote, \u201cHon Ghali Umar Na\u2019abba, Ex-Speaker House of Representatives. He lived an accomplished life.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe saved Nigeria\u2019s democracy at its most crucial moment. He upheld and defended the honor and independence of the parliament.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout the courage and principles of the likes of Ghali, the term limits for Governors and Presidents would have been expunged from our constitution. Ghali spoke for justice and stood for freedom. A great loss.<\/p>\n
