Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nasarawa State Government says it plans to conduct election for chairmen and councillors of the 13 local government councils in the state on Aug. 31.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC, Mr Ayuba Wandai, revealed this at a stakeholders\u2019 meeting with officials of the state Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, on Tuesday in Lafia.<\/p>\n

He said that the current chairmen and councilors were elected on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021 and inaugurated on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021 for a three-year tenure which would end on Oct. 7.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our second engagement the first was in August 2023 in line with the law establishing the Commission.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe law has given them the mandate to begin preparation for election one year before the expiration of the tenure of the officials.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe commission is a law-abiding institution that has continued to promote the adherence to the laws governing the conduct of LGs election in the state,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
