Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Rights activist, Deji Adeyanju has blamed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike for the rising insecurity in Abuja.<\/p>\n

Adeyanju said the demolition of poor people\u2019s homes on Wike\u2019s order was responsible for the rising cases of insecurity in the FCT.<\/p>\n

He said the destruction of their livelihood had led to the resorting to kidnappings and other crimes in FCT as a means of sustenance.<\/p>\n

A statement by Adeyanju said: \u201cRather than adequately relocating these individuals and providing them with alternative means of sustenance, the Minister has callously sent them to the streets, exacerbating the desperation and criminal activities in the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Minister\u2019s negligence and failure to address their needs and concerns have inadvertently created a vicious cycle of crime and victimization.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important to note that, when the poor no longer have what to eat, they will eat the rich.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is time for the FCT Minister to fulfill his duty and for the security agencies to demonstrate their commitment to protecting the lives and dignity of the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe residents of Abuja deserve nothing less than a safe and secure environment in which to live, work, and thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Abuja-based lawyer charged security agents to enhance their intelligence-gathering capabilities to ensure the capital city is safe.<\/p>\n
