{"id":109110,"date":"2024-01-31T18:14:31","date_gmt":"2024-01-31T17:14:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/why-we-are-demanding-n400k-new-minimum-wage-labour"},"modified":"2024-01-31T19:54:43","modified_gmt":"2024-01-31T18:54:43","slug":"why-we-are-demanding-n400k-new-minimum-wage-labour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/why-we-are-demanding-n400k-new-minimum-wage-labour","title":{"rendered":"Why we are demanding N400K new minimum wage \u2013 Labour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The organised labour union has tabled a new minimum wage of $300 (N436,500) for Nigerian workers before the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p>Labour said the proposed N436,500 was due to the fall in the value of the naira against the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed by the Chairman, Trade Union Side, Joint Meeting of the National Public Service Negotiating Council, JNPSNC, Comrade Benjamin Anthony.<\/p>\n<p>He made this proposal at the 2023 meetings of the Separate and Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council held in Goshen City, Nasarawa State, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony said the fuel subsidy removal had eroded the current minimum wage of N30,000.<\/p>\n<p>Represented by the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Boma Mohammed, he said: \u201cIn light of the above, Labour has proposed a living wage of $300 (N436,500) for Nigerian workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is due to the fall in the value of our currency.
