Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Legislative Compliance has warned the management of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwahsi-Uku, not to flout its resolution.<\/p>\n

The institution was consequently ordered to implement within 24 hours the resolution reached in January 2023 by the 7th Delta Assembly.<\/p>\n

Handing down the directive at a crucial meeting with the management team of the polytechnic, the chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker Arthur Akpowowo warned that further flouting of the committee\u2019s resolution by the institution\u2019s authorities would be met with heavy sanctions.<\/p>\n

The Legislative Compliance Committee, whose members include Majority Leader Emeka Nwaobi, Minority Leader Edafe Emakpor, and Deputy Majority Leader Festus Okoh, frowned at what it described as flagrant disrespect for the assembly by the management of the polytechnic.<\/p>\n

While threatening to invoke relevant sections of the legislative rules, the committee members urged the management team led by its rector, Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu, to, within 24 hours, furnish the committee with a letter conveying compliance with its directive.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the letter that you sent to us, it was obvious that you were not ready to implement our resolution. Our duty as a committee is to ensure that we do justice to every case that is reported to the State Assembly. In your letter, it is evident that you do not have respect for this House. There was certainly no reason for you to have replied to us in the manner and tone contained in your letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have sent several letters to you. This is our last meeting with you on this matter. You have between now and tomorrow to implement our resolution,\u201d Akpowowo said.<\/p>\n

In response, the rector of the polytechnic, Prof. Achuenu, who tendered apologies on behalf of the management of the polytechnic, promised to comply with the resolution as directed.<\/p>\n

The resolution, as earlier handed down to the school management, was the immediate reinstatement and reappraisal of the sanction placed on Mrs. Grace Adah of the polytechnic\u2019s Department of Academic Planning.<\/p>\n

Adah, who was allegedly demoted to the post of Principal Assistant Registrar following an issue with the management of the institution, wrote a petition to the Delta State House of Assembly, which, after investigation, directed that she be re-designated as Lecturer 1.<\/p>\n
