Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, successfully conducted mock examinations for over 260,000 candidates who enrolled for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The mock examination held across 793 Computer-Based Test, CBT, centres nationwide.<\/p>\n

Registrar\/Chief Executive of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, revealed the figures after monitoring the conduct in some of the centres in Abuja.<\/p>\n

Oloyede, who expressed delight over the seamless conduct of the exercise nationwide, said the exam was to test the preparedness for the main UTME, which will commence on Friday, 19th April, 2024.<\/p>\n

He revealed that the exam body also successfully conducted recruitment examination for the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, adding that the only few incidents recorded in the Mock UTME in about four centres would be resolved.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cSo far so good, we are doing mock after mock, just yesterday we conducted recruitment for the Police Service Commission throughout the country, that was a mock before today\u2019s mock and that was in 411 centres across the country, and today we are conducting our own mock in 793 centres across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo far, we have about three or four places where they have one issue or the other, but we are trying to get over that. So, it is a good one, even those three (where there are issues), we will have a way of accomodating them even if they go down completely. But everything is going on well and the reports we have, is that we are very okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking further, the JAMB boss said 1.98 million candidates registered for the main 2024 UTME out of which over 260,000 took part in the mock exam.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver 260,000 candidates are sitting for the (mock) exam but the real exam we have 1.98 million, because we don\u2019t want to turn our mock to another exam that is why we did not allow more than that number to register for the mock exam, which is just to test the system,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

On the readiness for the main UTME, Oloyede said JAMB was fully prepared for the smooth conduct of the exam, even as he revealed that new mechanisms would also be deployed to further fortify the exam system.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are adequately ready for the exam….today is a very special day for us. We know we are doing some internal revolution this year which we were apprehensive of the workability.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can now say we have arrived, what we said to ourselves about six, seven years ago, we have been able to achieve it today,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Oloyede revealed that the results of the Mock UTME will either be released on Thursday (today) evening or tomorrow (Friday).<\/p>\n

Earlier, Information and Communications Technology, ICT consultant at JAMB, Damilola Bamiro, said the exam body was also fully in touch with all the centres taking part in the examination through the JAMB\u2019s Situation Room.<\/p>\n

He said the Situation Room allows for real time interaction between the centres and JAMB to speedily resolve any issue during the exam.<\/p>\n
