{"id":113049,"date":"2024-03-13T21:22:18","date_gmt":"2024-03-13T20:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/benue-varsity-asuu-suspends-strike"},"modified":"2024-03-13T23:34:27","modified_gmt":"2024-03-13T22:34:27","slug":"benue-varsity-asuu-suspends-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/benue-varsity-asuu-suspends-strike","title":{"rendered":"Benue varsity ASUU suspends strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the Benue State University chapter, has suspended the strike it recently embarked upon.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to a statement jointly signed by Kwaghfan Tarnongo and Terrumun Gajir, its Chairman and Secretary and issued on Wednesday in Makurdi.<\/p>\n<p>The institution ASUU embarked on industrial action on February 1 over the non implementation of their promotions, payment of earned academic allowances, EAA, annual step increment, among other demands.<\/p>\n<p>The union, however, said that its decision to suspend the strike followed the intervention of Gov Hyacinth Alia of the state, stressing that the governor promised to address its demands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongress was also briefed on the personal intervention of our governor and Visitor to the university; he personally appealed and assured us that all the grievances will be resolved as soon as the strike is suspended.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongress therefore mandated the officials to go into a tripartite agreement.
