{"id":113437,"date":"2024-03-17T20:14:11","date_gmt":"2024-03-17T19:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/we-wont-accept-this-tinubu-speaks-on-massacre-of-army-officers-soldiers-in-delta"},"modified":"2024-03-17T22:35:06","modified_gmt":"2024-03-17T21:35:06","slug":"we-wont-accept-this-tinubu-speaks-on-massacre-of-army-officers-soldiers-in-delta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/we-wont-accept-this-tinubu-speaks-on-massacre-of-army-officers-soldiers-in-delta","title":{"rendered":"\u2018We won\u2019t accept this\u2019 \u2013 Tinubu speaks on massacre of Army officers, soldiers in Delta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>President Bola Tinubu has broken his silence on the attack in Okuama community, Delta State, which left 22 officers and men of the Nigerian Army dead.<\/p>\n<p>According to the President, the soldiers were on a peace mission, responding to a communal crisis between Okuama and Okoloba communities.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu vowed that the culprits will be brought to book.<\/p>\n<p>He said his administration will do everything possible to maintain peace in every part of the country.<\/p>\n<p>The President noted that the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Staff have been granted full authority to bring to justice anybody found to be involved in the killing of the Army officers and soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>The statement reads: \u201cOn Saturday morning, the Nigerian people and I woke up to the dreadful news of the unprovoked killing of our brave military personnel during a rescue mission in Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incident occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2024, when our troops, responding to a crisis between Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State, were ambushed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, and twelve soldiers sadly lost their lives. One civilian was also killed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Commander-in-Chief, I join all well-meaning Nigerians and the men and women of our armed forces to mourn and express my profound grief over the needless death of our gallant soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI extend my profound condolences to the families of these fallen soldiers, their colleagues, and their loved ones. The military high command is already responding to this incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cowardly offenders responsible for this heinous crime will not go unpunished. This incident, once again, demonstrates the dangers faced by our servicemen and women in the line of duty. I salute their heroism, courage, and uncommon grit and patriotism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a nation, we must constantly remember and honour all those who have paid the ultimate price to keep our nation safe, strong, and united.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe officers and men who died in Okuama community have joined the pantheon of great men and women who gave their all, with honour, in the service of our fatherland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMembers of our armed forces are at the heart and core of our nationhood. Any attack on them is a direct attack on our nation. We will not accept this wicked act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Staff have been granted full authority to bring to justice anybody found to have been responsible for this unconscionable crime against the Nigerian people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy government will not relent until we achieve peace and tranquillity in every part of Nigeria.
