Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Niger State House of Assembly has insisted that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, must supply 18 hours of electricity or the state will search elsewhere for its power supply.<\/p>\n

Members of the assembly had two weeks ago invited the electricity distribution company to appear before the House and explain the reason for the erratic power supply to Niger State in recent times.<\/p>\n

At the plenary presided over by the deputy speaker, Afiniki Dauda, the lawmakers claimed AEDC had breached the contract agreement between it and the Niger State Government on the supply of power.<\/p>\n

They told the representative and Chief Operations Officer of AEDC, Chijioke Okwuokenye, who had earlier met with Governor Mohammed Umar Bago in his office on the matter, that it is disheartening that AEDC has failed in its corporate social responsibility to the people of the state.<\/p>\n

According to them: \u201cThere is no corporate social responsibility by AEDC in the state. Instead, it is the people that are contributing and even when the state government purchases electrical facilities, after installing them, the company will say it is their property. Where is their corporate social responsibility to the people of the state?\u201d<\/p>\n

Consequently, the lawmakers unanimously adopted the motion that if the power distribution company fails to supply 18 hours of electricity, the contract between the state and the company comes to an end and the state is at liberty to look elsewhere for another supplier.<\/p>\n
