{"id":114616,"date":"2024-03-30T19:50:45","date_gmt":"2024-03-30T18:50:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/eight-arrested-over-murder-of-police-officers-in-delta"},"modified":"2024-03-30T22:12:09","modified_gmt":"2024-03-30T21:12:09","slug":"eight-arrested-over-murder-of-police-officers-in-delta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/eight-arrested-over-murder-of-police-officers-in-delta","title":{"rendered":"Eight arrested over murder of police officers in Delta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigeria Police Force said it has arrested eight suspects in connection with the murder of its officers on a fact finding mission in Ughelli area of Delta State.<\/p>\n<p>The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>He said the officers on a fact finding mission were on February 23 ambushed while others on a rescue mission were also ambushed, resulting to the death of six police officers.<\/p>\n<p>Adejobi said the arrest followed intensive investigative efforts of police operatives.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, five suspects were initially arrested shortly after the incident while additional three were apprehended at different locations.<\/p>\n<p>He said the arrest of the additional three followed statements and cooperation of those initially arrested five suspects.<\/p>\n<p>Adejobi said the suspects were currently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Nigeria Police Force was committed to ensuring that all those responsible for the murder and other similar crimes were arrested and brought to justice swiftly and decisively.<\/p>\n<p>The police spokesman said the suspects would soon have their day in court, with credible evidence, once investigations were concluded.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Police were deeply saddened by the heinous act of violence against its officers who were diligently performing their duty to protect and serve the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen officers during this difficult time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish to reiterate that killers of our officers in this extant case and many others, have murdered peace and none of them will go unpunished,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the officers, who were on duty in Ughelli area of the state, were killed on February 23 and 26, with six others missing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
