Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Governing Council of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, NSUK, has reportedly shortlisted three professors for the position of Vice-Chancellor of the state-owned university, stating the importance of merit in the selection process.<\/p>\n

NSUK has been without a substantive Vice-Chancellor since April 2, with Professor Abdullahi Sallau Modibbo serving in an acting capacity following the expiration of the tenure of the 5th Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed.<\/p>\n

Internal sources said the governing council, led by Professor Muhammadu Attahiru Jega, has shortlisted three candidates, namely: Professor Sa\u2019adatu Hassan Liman, Professor Ibrahim Muhammad Haruna, and Professor Suleiman Akwu-Odo Salihu Aruwa.<\/p>\n

It was gathered from sources that a total of seventeen candidates had applied for the vacant position, including former Commissioners, Professors Alanana Otaki, Umaru Gurku, and Ayuba Jonathan, among others.<\/p>\n

However, stakeholders have urged the Visitor and Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, to ensure that due process is followed in selecting the Vice-Chancellor.<\/p>\n

They stated that the quality of the university is currently at its lowest and appealed to Governor Sule not to compromise on merit in the appointment.<\/p>\n

However, a retired teacher, identified as Mallam Yunusa, alleged that the Governor\u2019s preferred candidate did not meet the job criteria.<\/p>\n

The University\u2019s advertorial for the position listed the qualifications, including being a distinguished professor of not less than 5 years post-professorial appointment, with demonstrated academic leadership and management capability, and a scholar of outstanding national and international repute with a PhD in their discipline, among others.<\/p>\n
