Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Gombe State government has instituted a compulsory monthly sanitation exercise to enhance environmental cleanliness and sustainability in the state.<\/p>\n

Governor Inuwa Yahaya approved the exercise to be held every last Saturday of the month, with the first session scheduled for April.<\/p>\n

Mohammed Fawu, the Commissioner for Water, Environment, and Forest Resources, stated in a memo on Tuesday the importance of the exercise and encouraged residents to take advantage of this opportunity to clean up their environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn line with this administration\u2019s resolve to ensure the provision of a sustainable and healthy environment for human habitation, Gov. Yahaya has approved the conduct of a monthly general environmental sanitation exercise in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is to be observed by the general public every last Saturday of the month. The exercise is to be conducted between 8 am and 10 am. Based on the above, there will be restrictions on movements during the period (except those on essential services). All MDAs and the general public are hereby directed to comply strictly with the directive,\u201d Fawu stated.<\/p>\n

He added that officials from the Ministry of Water, Environment, and Forest Resources, as well as the Gombe State Environmental Sanitation and Protection Agency, GOSEPA, will monitor the exercise to enforce compliance.<\/p>\n

The state government has also recently constructed waste collection points in various communities within the metropolis and suburbs to improve waste management efficiency.<\/p>\n
