{"id":116683,"date":"2024-04-22T20:36:41","date_gmt":"2024-04-22T19:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/divorce-seeking-military-officer-accuses-wife-of-bad-temperament"},"modified":"2024-04-22T23:03:03","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T22:03:03","slug":"divorce-seeking-military-officer-accuses-wife-of-bad-temperament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/divorce-seeking-military-officer-accuses-wife-of-bad-temperament","title":{"rendered":"Divorce-seeking military officer accuses wife of bad temperament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A retired military officer, Thomas Olawaye, on Monday prayed a Mapo Grade \u2018A\u2019 Customary Court in Ibadan to grant his request for divorce to his wife of 52 years, Victoria, on the grounds that she was ill-tempered.<\/p>\n<p>Olawaye, a father of five, told the court that in spite of several interventions by relatives to \u201dcalm\u201d his wife, she refused to change her bad ways.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dMy lord, for you to know how terrible Victoria had been, I stopped performing my duties as a husband 22 years before she eventually left my home in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dShe grabs my private parts whenever we have an argument. Victoria doesn\u2019t mind her business in the neighbourhood we lived in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dShe has no good words for me. She curses and has even destroyed our children\u2019s lives with curses,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He accused his estranged wife of attempting to stab him with a knife in 2023, tendering the knife as an exhibit before the court.<\/p>\n<p>The respondent was however, absent in court.<\/p>\n<p>The bailiff had informed the court that he served hearing notices on the respondent many times.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering judgment, the court\u2019s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo held that there was no marriage to be dissolved between Olawaye and Victoria in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>Akintayo said that this was because the petitioner did not pay any bride price and did not perform essential traditional rites required.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe fact that a man and a woman are living together and even bearing children together does not mean that they are married, their togetherness is a mere cohabitation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She added that the failure of the respondent to appear in court to controvert the evidence tendered against her necessitated the admission of the evidence.<\/p>\n<p>She also granted the order restraining Victoria from threatening, harassing, disturbing and interfering in the private life of Olawaye.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
