Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has described the ongoing local government election in the state as peaceful.<\/p>\n

Makinde made this declaration on Saturday while addressing journalists shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 1, Ward 11 in Ibadan North East Local Government Area.<\/p>\n

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) is conducting the local government election today.<\/p>\n

Makinde commended the citizens of the state for turning out to vote in the election.<\/p>\n

He described the exercise as peaceful, noting that security reports about the election have been excellent.<\/p>\n

Makinde, in the same vein, urged those who observed untoward developments to report same to the security agencies.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cFor us in Oyo State, it is almost like a given that democracy at the grassroots is what we practise. This is almost our fifth year in office and we are holding local government election for the second time.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore we came in, it had always been caretaker administration at the grassroots without the people having a say in who should govern them.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can see around also that the people are going about, performing the exercise peacefully and the traffic restriction is being obeyed by the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I will commend our people for coming out to take seriously democracy at that level.\u201d<\/p>\n\r\n
