Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State, George Okoye, has urged stakeholders not to allow the party to go into extinction in the country\u2019s politics.<\/p>\n

Okoye, also a former member of the State Assembly, told journalists in Awka on Monday that the leadership of PDP should not allow their personal interests and ambitions to fizzle out the party.<\/p>\n

He said that PDP was the only strong opposition party and the foundation of democratic practice in the country, hence, should not be allowed to dissipate.<\/p>\n

The PDP chieftain urged the party leadership to come together and restructure it for a better Nigeria, rather than jumping into a so-called \u2018New Mega Party\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe leadership of PDP is complacent, they are just going through the motions, looking for direction.<\/p>\n

\u201cJoining a \u2018Mega Party\u2019 cannot work in Nigeria today. The only thing that PDP needs now is to resolve its leadership challenges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Okoye was optimistic that the party could have credible leadership if its internal democracy was worked on.<\/p>\n

Assessing President Bola Tinubu\u2019s performance in the last one year, Okoye said that he was impressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the government does the right thing, commend it, and criticise it when it does the wrong thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do not think President Tinubu is doing badly. I am impressed by his performance so far, but PDP can provide a better alternative.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only problem with PDP is credible leadership and once there is credible leadership, everything else will fall into place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
