Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Yunusa Tanko, the spokesman of the defunct Obi-Datti presidential campaign council, has said Peter Obi, the Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, would only agree to a merger that will bring Nigeria out of poverty.<\/p>\n

Tanko said the former Anambra governor is not interested in any merger that is aimed at seeking political powers.<\/p>\n

Recall that Obi had met with his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Sule Lamido.<\/p>\n

The meeting with the duo had sparked speculations of a possible merger, which Atiku recently clamoured for.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the speculations, Tanko said Obi would only partner with those who have similar values.<\/p>\n

Featuring on Channels Television\u2019s Politics Today on Monday, Tanko said: \u201cHis Excellency, Peter GregoryObi is not interested in a merger that is only for the interest of seeking power.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is interested in a merger that will bring Nigerians out of the poverty level, bringing the Nigerian people to a comfortable state of health care.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaking sure Nigerians have potable drinking water; making sure the problem of power supply is being solved.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, therefore, he is interested strongly in a merger that is driven by ideology and a programme. But if it\u2019s only for the purpose of power, he is not interested.\u201d<\/p>\n
