Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Former lawmaker, Senator Daniel Bwala, has suggested that the minimum wage should be around N250,000.<\/p>\n

Bwala gave the suggestion on Monday while fielding questions on TVC News programme.<\/p>\n

The statement is coming amid ongoing industrial action by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, over failure to reach agreement with the federal government on national minimum wage.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn terms of being realistic to food inflation and cost of living in Nigeria generally, N60,000 is nowhere. Even the federal government is not denying that. I don\u2019t think anybody in his right sense will say what the Labour Union is asking is nonsensical. No. It\u2019s deserving but not realistic.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the government should be reasonable enough to go a little higher. And I don\u2019t think the government is saying N60,000 is the final.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you ask me, I think the minimum wage should be about N250,000 in Nigeria. But if you think it\u2019s due but there is no money, then you have to make do with what you have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniel Bwala has attacked the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, for embarking on strike.<\/p>\n

Bwala has earlier questioned why NLC chose to go on strike on the day students across the country were expected to start writing exterminations.<\/p>\n

The former lawmaker stated that the NLC was hurting the very families it claimed to be fighting for.<\/p>\n
