Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Barely three months before the Edo State governorship election, the campaign council of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that its candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, when elected governor of the state, would right the wrongs of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration.<\/p>\n

Kassim Afegbua, media consultant to the campaign council, gave the assurance on Sunday in Benin City.<\/p>\n

No less than 16 political parties are fielding candidates for the Edo State governorship election, which is slated for September 21, 2024.<\/p>\n

Afegbua, who urged the people of the state to reject the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, added that Senator Monday Okpebholo, if elected, would focus on five critical areas of the state\u2019s socioeconomic sectors that need urgent attention.<\/p>\n

He listed the areas to include agriculture, health, education, human capital development, environmental protection and safety and security architecture.<\/p>\n

\u201cA vote for Senator Monday Okpebholo would put an end to capital flights, which have been synonymous with the PDP-led administration in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndigenous contractors have been strangulated under Obaseki\u2019s administration. Briefcase contractors are imported into the state to undertake jobs instead of encouraging our businesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe APC candidate, Okpebholo, is a man known to the people. He contested the 2023 election in his senatorial district and defeated an incumbent PDP senator. That was a testament to his acceptance by the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cEdo State must rise again, free itself from the snares of under-development, and, in freedom, work with a man who will promote collective enterprise for the overall good of our people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Afegbua, who described the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, as imported and a stooge of Obaseki, noted that he would continue with the \u201cobnoxious policies\u201d of Governor Obaseki if voted into power.<\/p>\n

He listed the unfulfilled promises of the Obaseki-led PDP administration to include Sobe Farms, 18 stadia in 18 local governments, Gelegele Port, Auchi Airport, industrial park and 200,000 Edo jobs, among others.<\/p>\n
