Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>No fewer than five persons have been reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen during an attack on Egwuma community in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue.<\/p>\n

Reliable sources told DAILY POST the attack on the community occurred on Sunday.<\/p>\n

A community source, who does not want to be mentioned for security reasons, stated that the assailants were herdsmen.<\/p>\n

According to the source, the herders arrived around 2 pm on Sunday, attacked the community and killed villagers.<\/p>\n

The source said: \u201cYouths searched the bush and recovered five dead bodies of villagers.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that youths have mobilised themselves to defend the community from the invaders and security agencies have been informed.<\/p>\n

As of the time of this report, sources said the attack on Egwuma is still ongoing.<\/p>\n

When contacted on the telephone, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anne, said she hadn\u2019t been briefed on the incident.<\/p>\n
