Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, has declared that establishment of local government electoral commission will go a long way to ensure transparent and fair elections at the local government level.<\/p>\n

Mumuni made this declaration via a statement signed on his behalf by his Media Aide, Rasheed Abubakar and made available on Friday.<\/p>\n

A bill seeking to establish local government electoral commission on Thursday scaled first reading in the Senate.<\/p>\n

The bill was introduced by Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, from Niger East Senatorial District.<\/p>\n

Mumuni, in his reaction, noted that the commission will help to ensure fair and transparent elections across jurisdictions.<\/p>\n

He added that the electoral commission will help to ensure credibility and legitimacy of local government elections.<\/p>\n

He added that the commission when established will help to increase public trust in the whole process.<\/p>\n

Mumuni said, \u201cOne of the primary advantages is that it ensures fair and transparent elections within the jurisdiction. The commission will be responsible for overseeing the electoral process, including voters\u2019 registration, candidates\u2019 nominations, and the conduct of elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy having a dedicated body like a local government electoral commission, there would be a higher level of expertise and specialization in managing elections specifically at the local level. This can lead to more efficient and effective electoral processes, reducing the likelihood of errors or irregularities in the voting process.<\/p>\n

\u201cMoreover, a local government electoral commission can help build trust and confidence in the electoral system among residents of the local community. Knowing that there is an independent body overseeing the electoral process can increase public trust in the fairness and integrity of local elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdditionally, having a local government electoral commission can promote greater accountability in the electoral process.
