{"id":125427,"date":"2024-07-23T23:40:45","date_gmt":"2024-07-23T22:40:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/two-benue-farmers-sent-to-prison-over-alleged-armed-robbery-abduction"},"modified":"2024-07-24T00:50:08","modified_gmt":"2024-07-23T23:50:08","slug":"two-benue-farmers-sent-to-prison-over-alleged-armed-robbery-abduction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/two-benue-farmers-sent-to-prison-over-alleged-armed-robbery-abduction","title":{"rendered":"Two Benue farmers sent to prison over alleged armed robbery, abduction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A Makurdi Chief Magistrates\u2019 Court, on Tuesday, remanded two farmers, Orshi Tyohemba and Johnpaul Agbanger, in a Makurdi correctional center over alleged armed robbery and abduction.<\/p>\n<p>The farmers who live in Konshisha and Kwande local government areas, respectively, are being charged with criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, abduction, and acts of terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Chief Magistrate, Kelvin Mbanongun, did not take the defendants\u2019 plea due to lack of jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>Mbanongun adjourned the matter until Aug 5, for further mention.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Godwin Ato, told the court<\/p>\n<p>that Tyohemba and Agbanger conspired with others, now at large, to abduct the complainant\u2019s mother, Mbazan Agwaza.<\/p>\n<p>He said the complainant, Mlumun Sunday, reported the matter at the Police Area Command, Gboko on April 15.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor further said that the defendants stole N8 million from their captive before taking her away to an unknown destination.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the defendants were arrested during a police investigation on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Ato said that the offences contravened Sections 6(b), 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearm Act, 2004, 3(2).<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the offences also contravened Sections 3(2) and 4(2) of the Abduction, Hostage Taking, Kidnapping, Secret Cult, and Similar Activities Prohibition Laws of Benue, 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Nigeria Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
