Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A businessman was killed by a stray bullet during a violent protest in Yauri local government area of Kebbi State.<\/p>\n

The bullet, allegedly fired by marine police near the Yauri River, struck the victim while he was in his shop selling plastics.<\/p>\n

Malam Umar Bako Yelwa, a local resident, who spoke to Vanguard, noted that the protest escalated when demonstrators blocked the federal highway, causing a major disruption to traffic entering Yauri town.<\/p>\n

In an attempt to disperse the crowd, marine police reportedly fired shots, resulting in a stray bullet fatally wounding the plastic seller whose identity is yet to be ascertained.<\/p>\n

Efforts to obtain a statement from the Nigeria Police Force\u2019s Kebbi State Command were unsuccessful, as the police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, did not respond to calls or text messages seeking comment.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the situation in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, remains calm following the protests that have affected various parts of the town.<\/p>\n
