Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Police in Jigawa State have arrested 55 protesters for alleged vandalism and looting of both private and government properties.<\/p>\n

The state police spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued.<\/p>\n

This follows Thursday\u2019s protest, which resulted in the deaths of two people and left many others injured.<\/p>\n

He explained that some of the items recovered from the protesters include 35 motorcycles, 3 tricycles, 12 bicycles, 111 bags of fertilizer, chairs and 40 cartons of mosquito nets.<\/p>\n

The arrested suspects are accused of trespassing at the Hadejia LG Secretariat, setting fire to six parked vehicles, vandalizing JASCO stores, and stealing fertilizer and foodstuffs in Gumel LG.<\/p>\n

The suspects also set fire to the house of National Assembly member Hon. Nazifi Sani, vandalized the NITDA office, and looted the APC state secretariat before setting it ablaze.<\/p>\n

DSP Shiisu said the suspects will be taken to court for prosecution.<\/p>\n
