{"id":127622,"date":"2024-08-11T23:37:01","date_gmt":"2024-08-11T22:37:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/bribe-for-bail-anambra-judiciary-begins-investigation-promises-to-punish-erring-officers-2"},"modified":"2024-08-12T00:39:20","modified_gmt":"2024-08-11T23:39:20","slug":"bribe-for-bail-anambra-judiciary-begins-investigation-promises-to-punish-erring-officers-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/bribe-for-bail-anambra-judiciary-begins-investigation-promises-to-punish-erring-officers-2","title":{"rendered":"Bribe for bail: Anambra Judiciary begins investigation, promises to punish erring officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Anambra State Judiciary has begun investigation into allegations of bribery against a magistrate in the state by a lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>A lawyer, whose client was allegedly denied bail for refusing to pay N20,000 bribe, made the disclosure in a video that has gone viral on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Investigation showed that the incident happened at Magistrate Court 3 in Amawbia, and not Awka as alleged by the lawyer in the video, but attempts to trace the lawyer have, however, not been successful.<\/p>\n<p>The State Judiciary Sunday in a press release confirmed knowledge of the video, saying it will investigate the allegation and punish anyone found to be an offender.<\/p>\n<p>In the press release, which was signed by the Deputy Chief Registrar (DCR), PC Udeorah, Esq, the Judiciary said it takes such claims seriously, while assuring the general public that any unethical behavior will be fully investigated and any judicial officer at whatever level found wanting will be dealt with accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>The statement read, \u201cTo this end, we have already initiated communications with the Learned Chief Magistrate and court staff mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEfforts are being made to reach the lawyer that raised the allegation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe ask the public to allow investigations proceed without prejudice and we remain committed to upholding justice and maintaining public trust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Nigeria Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
