{"id":127972,"date":"2024-08-15T22:41:21","date_gmt":"2024-08-15T21:41:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/i-wasnt-given-fair-hearing-senator-stripped-of-title-by-bauchi-emirate"},"modified":"2024-08-15T23:44:58","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T22:44:58","slug":"i-wasnt-given-fair-hearing-senator-stripped-of-title-by-bauchi-emirate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/i-wasnt-given-fair-hearing-senator-stripped-of-title-by-bauchi-emirate","title":{"rendered":"I wasn\u2019t given fair hearing\u2019 \u2013 Senator stripped of title by Bauchi Emirate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Senator Shehu Buba Umar (APC, Bauchi South) has expressed his disappointment with the Bauchi Emirate Council\u2019s decision to revoke his traditional title of \u2018Mujaddadin Bauchi\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed that he was not given a fair hearing before the action was taken.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST reports that the Bauchi Emirate Council revoked the senator\u2019s traditional title on Wednesday for \u2018disrespecting\u2019 the state governor, Bala Mohammed.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST recalls that Buba held a press briefing last week where he accused Governor Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of diverting palliative items provided by the APC-led federal government.<\/p>\n<p>The senator was reacting to the governor\u2019s criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<p>The senator claimed that essential supplies like rice, corn, and fertiliser meant to alleviate economic hardship in the state were allegedly sold by the state government instead of being distributed to the people.<\/p>\n<p>However, a letter dated August 14, 2024, and signed by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate Council\u2019s secretary, disclosed that the title withdrawal followed a council meeting, where Senator Umar\u2019s alleged misconduct was discussed.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the Bauchi Emirate Council\u2019s decision to revoke his chieftaincy title, Buba, in a letter addressed to the Emir of Bauchi, expressed his shock at the council\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the council to resist being drawn into political conflicts that serve the interests of politicians rather than the people.<\/p>\n<p>The senator clarified that his remarks towards Governor Mohammed were not meant as an insult but as a defence of President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that his response was provoked by what he viewed as the governor\u2019s \u201cdisparaging comments\u201d about the president, which he believed were part of a deliberate effort to damage the president\u2019s reputation, incite public unrest, and endanger national security.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Umar criticised the governor\u2019s language, describing it as \u201cconfrontational, accusatory, abusive, and defamatory,\u201d claiming that it was a tactic to manipulate public emotions and undermine national security.<\/p>\n<p>In the statement seen by DAILY POST Umar said: \u201cI was deeply shocked to receive a letter dated August 14, 2024, informing me of the Bauchi Emirate Council\u2019s decision to withdraw my traditional title of Mujaddadin Bauchi. This decision, I understand, was based on allegations that I insulted Governor Bala Mohammed during a political rally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, during a recent APC campaign event, I only responded to the governor\u2019s disparaging comments about President Tinubu. I felt these comments were aimed at exposing the president to public ridicule and inciting discontent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn several widely circulated media clips, the governor\u2019s rhetoric was confrontational, accusatory, abusive, and defamatory, using emotional language to falsely accuse President Tinubu of \u2018lying to us,\u2019 \u2018deception,\u2019 \u2018causing pain,\u2019 and \u2018fostering anger and hunger.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese allegations by Governor Bala, a member of the PDP, against President Tinubu of the APC are politically motivated, baseless, and unsupported by evidence. In response, I pointed out that Governor Bala has received over N144 billion from the Federation Account in 2023 and over N47 billion so far this year yet the citizens of Bauchi continue to suffer from hunger and hardship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI emphasised that President Tinubu is committed to securing the nation, stabilising the economy, and promoting peaceful coexistence without dividing the nation, unlike Governor Bala. My remarks were made in defence of the president, a higher authority than the governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI regret that the Bauchi Emirate Council made this decision without offering me a fair hearing. However, I accept their decision with humility and hope that, in time, Almighty Allah will send a leader to Bauchi State who will address these issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also advise the Bauchi Emirate Council to avoid being drawn into political disputes that serve the interests of a few rather than the welfare of the people.
