Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>No fewer than 2,000 families have been displaced and farmlands destroyed following severe flooding in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.<\/p>\n

The Director of Administration and General Services of the council and acting chairman, Abdu Sule Mezan, disclosed this to newsmen while inspecting some of the affected areas.<\/p>\n

He expressed deep concern over the magnitude of the situation, which has caused the loss of properties worth billions of Naira.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cThe flooding ravaged several communities, including Ringim town, Dabi, Yakasawa, and Sintilmawa, among others, causing damage, leaving over 2,000 residents homeless and destroying crops.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mezan said some of the displaced families have been camped at primary schools for shelter.<\/p>\n

He also stated that the local government is focussing its efforts on addressing the threat posed by the Rafin Kainuwa stream, which has been a recurring danger to the residents of Ringim.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year, this stream threatens the lives of over 200 houses, and we are making every effort to redirect it to the main river.\u201d<\/p>\n

A resident of the area, Mal. Musa, said the people are having sleepless nights whenever it rains.<\/p>\n

He explained that due to the overflow of the Rafin Kainuwa stream, their homes have been taken over by water, forcing them to seek shelter in the homes of relatives.<\/p>\n

He also appealed to both the state and federal governments to provide a lasting solution to the annual problem.<\/p>\n
