Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has expressed his reservation over a disturbing video report on Facebook alleging that inmates at the Afokang Custodial Centre in Calabar are being subjected to inhumane treatment, including being served poorly cooked beans as breakfast.<\/p>\n

According to a statement on Sunday by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Alao Babatunde, the minister considered the incident a serious breach of the standards of care and dignity to which inmates are entitled.<\/p>\n

He subsequently directed a comprehensive and urgent investigation into the matter with a strong warning that those responsible would be held accountable, even as he warned that any lapses in the quality of food, sanitation, and welfare of inmates would not be tolerated.<\/p>\n

According to him, the Nigeria Correctional Service must ensure inmates are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.<\/p>\n

\u201d The findings of the investigation will be made public, and necessary disciplinary actions will be taken,\u201d Tuunji-Ojo said in the statement.<\/p>\n
