Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A man in Adamawa State, James Titus, has bagged a two-year prison term for stealing an armored cable.<\/p>\n

Titus who was charged with involvement in the theft of the armored cable at an electricity supply substation in Numan, Numan Local Government Area, is to serve the two years without option of fine.<\/p>\n

The verdict was delivered by Magistrate Safari Samuel of the Chief Magistrate Court, Numan.<\/p>\n

According to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC, which deployed the cable at the heart of the litigation, the theft occurred on August 24, 2024.<\/p>\n

A statement obtained from the YEDC by DAILY POST on Tuesday said after Titus vandalized the cable, he was apprehended along the Numan-Jalingo highway while burning the cable to extract the wires in it for sale.<\/p>\n

\u201cTitus intended to sell the extracted wires to metal scavengers,\u201d said the statement signed by YEDC Communications Officer, Blessing Tunor.<\/p>\n

The statement said the transformer from which the stolen cable was taken supplies electricity to the Numan market and GRA, adding that both areas have been without electricity since the theft.<\/p>\n

The statement expressed the hope that the court verdict would serve as a deterrent against vandalization of public infrastructure.<\/p>\n
