Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, an apex body of Nigerian lawyers, has condemned the recent Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) price hike by the Nigerian.<\/p>\n

NBA President Afam Osigwe disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

His statement comes amid the recent petrol increase to between N855 and N897 per litre from N617 by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the hike, NBA called for reconsideration and reversal.<\/p>\n

NBA said: \u201cThis significant and abrupt hike has imposed an unbearable burden on the already overstretched finances of ordinary Nigerians, further aggravating the economic challenges faced by millions across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NBA views this sudden price hike as not only harsh but also unjustified at this time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn light of this, the Nigerian Bar Association calls on the Federal Government to immediately halt the implementation of this policy and engage in meaningful dialogue with all relevant stakeholders, including civil society organisations, labour unions, and economic experts, to explore more sustainable and less punitive alternatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens, particularly the most vulnerable, and to pursue policies that alleviate rather than exacerbate the hardships faced by the Nigerian people.\u201d<\/p>\n

DAILY POST recalls that NNPCL adjusted its petrol pump price by at least 45 per cent to N855 and N897 per litre from N617.<\/p>\n

The development comes as Dangote Refinery on Tuesday announced the kickoff of petrol production on its 650,000 barrels per day Lagos-based refinery.<\/p>\n
