As members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Shi\u2019ites continue to protest the refusal of federal government to release their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, the Kano State Command has banned all sorts of protests, processions or demonstration by any group in the state.<\/p>\n
The State Command spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, said the ban became necessary to safeguard peaceful coexistence of the people.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn order to prevent and avert any threat , breach of peace or break down of law and order in face of various security challenges in the State, the Kano State Police Command have resolved to suspend permission to hold any form of rally, demonstration, procession, assembly or protest, be it religious, political or in whichever form,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n
DSP Abdullahi said, \u201cMembers of the Public, civil society organization, political and religious leaders, NGO\u2019s and other groups under whatever guise are warned to adhere to the suspension order until further notice.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added that the decision to ban the rallies and or protests was to ensure a lasting peace and unity in the state.<\/p>\n
Consequently, \u201cany person or group of persons found to engage in any unlawful assembly will be arrested and prosecuted in the Court of Law.
