{"id":131335,"date":"2024-09-19T10:54:06","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T09:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/osun-lg-poll-apc-others-face-disqualification-in-seven-lgs-ossiec"},"modified":"2024-09-19T12:00:23","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T11:00:23","slug":"osun-lg-poll-apc-others-face-disqualification-in-seven-lgs-ossiec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/osun-lg-poll-apc-others-face-disqualification-in-seven-lgs-ossiec","title":{"rendered":"Osun LG Poll: APC, others face disqualification in seven LGs \u2014 OSSIEC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, has raised concerns over the improper nomination of candidates by three political parties.<\/p>\n<p>The OSSIEC chairman, Hashim Abioye revealed that the political parties affected included the All Progressives Congress, APC), Allied Peoples Movement, APM, and Action Peoples Party, APP.<\/p>\n<p>OSSIEC has scheduled the local government elections in the state for February 22, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The OSSIEC chairman, Hashim Abioye, while presenting the report of the commission\u2019s verification committee to journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday, said nearly all the 18 political parties that nominated candidates committed one infraction or the other.<\/p>\n<p>He said the affected political parties failed to properly nominate candidates for the chairmanship positions in seven local government areas.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, discrepancies were found between the names of candidates submitted by these parties and the names on their official nomination forms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the course of the verification exercise, a checklist was designed to gauge and verify the eligibility of each candidate\u2019s age qualification, academic qualification, tax compliance, nomination fee compliance, and most importantly, sponsorship by the political party of the candidate as contained in the list of candidates submitted to the commission by the political party, were the yardstick<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome political parties, notably the All Progressives Congress, the Allied Peoples Movement, and the Action Peoples Party ran foul of the provisions and procedure regarding substitution of candidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile no substitution can be validly done without following the rules, any substitution or change of candidate done after the purported candidate intended to be a replacement for another must have been given and submitted nomination form despite his\/her name not being on the list originally submitted to the commission would be void,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Osun APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, responding said the party had not yet received the report.<\/p>\n<p>He assured that the APC would review the commission\u2019s findings before determining the next course of action.<\/p>\n<p>Olabisi added, \u201cWe are a party that acts based on the rule of law.
