Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has rejected President Bola Tinubu\u2019s plan to organize a 30-day youth conference.<\/p>\n

President Tinubu in his Independence Day broadcast, on Tuesday, explained that his administration would convene a National Youth Conference to address the diverse challenges and opportunities confronting youths.<\/p>\n

The conference, he said, would provoke meaningful dialogue and empower the young people that constituted more than 60 per cent of the population, to participate actively in nation-building.<\/p>\n

Debo Adeniran, CDHR\u2019s spokesperson, in a statement, stated that such a conference would not bring any positive result.<\/p>\n

He explained that Tinubu does not need any youth conference again, stressing that the youth have spoken loud and clear about what they want.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cWhat this administration needs to do is to address some of the issues raised during the #EndSars and #EndBadGovernnace protests.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adeniran opined that such a conference would end up being another waste of scarce resources, adding that they (youths) have asked for return of fuel subsidy to reduce the hardship in town.<\/p>\n

He said that if this cannot be reversed, the people should see the impact of the proceeds in their lives.<\/p>\n

He stated that the government should provide grants and more scholarships instead of providing loans for students.<\/p>\n

Adeniran suggested that education should be totally free, at least for primary and secondary education, for the masses to be relieved of some burdens.<\/p>\n
