{"id":133176,"date":"2024-10-05T10:09:21","date_gmt":"2024-10-05T09:09:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/rivers-lg-polls-obey-court-order-ex-nba-president-okocha-tells-fubara"},"modified":"2024-10-05T11:11:59","modified_gmt":"2024-10-05T10:11:59","slug":"rivers-lg-polls-obey-court-order-ex-nba-president-okocha-tells-fubara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/rivers-lg-polls-obey-court-order-ex-nba-president-okocha-tells-fubara","title":{"rendered":"Rivers LG polls: Obey court order \u2013 Ex-NBA President, Okocha tells Fubara"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Onueze Chukwujinka Okocha, SAN, has urged the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to obey the court order on the October 5 local government election in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that on September 30, 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a judgment that prohibited the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies from participating in the Local Government Election.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the rulings, Governor Fubara vowed that the election would be held as planned.<\/p>\n<p>However, police authorities in the state said they would not participate in the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting on the matter on Channels Television\u2019s Politics Today on Friday, Okocha warned that problems could mar the election as the police would comply with the court order by not providing security for the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way forward is for the State Independent Electoral Commission, the Governor of Rivers State represented by the Attorney General of Rivers State to obey the order of the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cINEC has said that we have not given them register, we will not give them in compliance with the order of the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Inspector General of Police speaking through the police spokesman in Rivers State has said we will obey the order of the court and will not provide security for the election,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The ex-NBA President argued that a former Rivers State governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has nothing to do with the crisis rocking the oil-rich state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Minister of the FCT is not a party in this case. Why should anybody be calling his name? The issues involved are issues of law and have nothing to do with personalities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe parties involved are institutions \u2013 All Progressives Congress (APC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Attorney General of Rivers State, Government of Rivers State and the State Security Services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople should move away from parochialism and casting aspersions on individuals to score cheap political points,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Nigeria Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
