{"id":133324,"date":"2024-10-06T09:46:17","date_gmt":"2024-10-06T08:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/minimum-wage-work-in-progress-for-kwara-workers-nlc"},"modified":"2024-10-06T10:49:14","modified_gmt":"2024-10-06T09:49:14","slug":"minimum-wage-work-in-progress-for-kwara-workers-nlc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/minimum-wage-work-in-progress-for-kwara-workers-nlc","title":{"rendered":"Minimum wage: Work in progress for Kwara workers \u2013 NLC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Kwara State, Comrade Murtala Olayinka, has said efforts are ongoing with other stakeholders to ensure implementation of the new minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the World Teachers Day in Ilorin, Comrade Murtala disclosed that the committee constituted by the state government on minimum wage was working round the clock towards ensuring that the policy was implemented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI urge teachers in the state to exercise patience, at the end of the day, we will come out with something tangible that will make everybody smile,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, state chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Yusuf Agboola, commended the state government for prompt payment of teachers\u2019 salaries, cash-backing of Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) teachers\u2019 promotions of 2021 and 2022 and the recent approval of 2023 and 2024 promotion.<\/p>\n<p>Yusuf, however, listed some challenges still faced by teachers such as \u201cincorrect implementation of 27.5 percent Teachers Specific Allowance (TSA) for TRN certificated and 21 percent of non TRN certificated teachers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis problem is peculiar to only Kwara State in the entire federation,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n<p>According to Yusuf, other challenges include non-implementation of November 2023 palliatives for teachers under TESCOM, non implementation of annual increment steps for SUBEB teachers for many years, non-recruitment of more teachers for senior secondary schools despite massive retirements that occurred between 2022 and 2024, non-payment of allowance for teachers in rural areas, adding that the government was yet to key into the 65\/40 years harmonized retirement age for teachers in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Shehu Adaramaja, also assured that teachers would be taken care of in the new minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Nigeria Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
