Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Tuesday, sentenced a 40-year-old man, Noah Oke, to three years imprisonment for illegal possession of Cannabis sativa.<\/p>\n

The court, however, gave him an option of one million naira fine.<\/p>\n

He was prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.<\/p>\n

The defendant was arraigned before Justice Lewis Allagoa on a one-count charge of drug trafficking and he pleaded guilty.<\/p>\n

After his plea, the court reviewed the facts of the case with counsel to NDLEA)l, Mr Aondofa Korinjo, tendering exhibits which were admitted by the court.<\/p>\n

Korinjo then urged the court to convict the defendant based on his plea and evidence adduced by prosecution.<\/p>\n

The judge found the defendant guilty as charged and sentenced him.<\/p>\n

According to the charge, the convict committed the offense on August 21, at the Seme area of Lagos State.<\/p>\n

NDLEA said that he illegally possessed a kilogram of Cannabis sativa, a restricted drug in contravention of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004..<\/p>\n
