Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA has assured flood victims in Kogi State of Federal Government\u2019s support.<\/p>\n

Dr Dele Onimode, who led the NEMA team gave the assurance at the Adankolo IDP camp when the team visited the state for an on-the-spot assessment of the flood disaster in Kogi State.<\/p>\n

He assured the victims of urgent Federal Government intervention.<\/p>\n

Some flood victims in Adankolo IDP camp decried the poor conditions of the camps provided for them by the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA.<\/p>\n

According to them, for over three days since they moved into the camp, the supervising agencies such as SEMA are yet to bring food, or shelter for flood victims forcing them to feed once a day through individual donations.<\/p>\n

They said they were helpless as the assistance promised by the state government in its sensitization messages had not yet materialized.<\/p>\n

One of the flood victims who identified herself as Fatima said \u201cWe are dying here and we need the government to come to our aid. No doubt, we have been displaced from our homes but the government should not turn their backs on us because we need help. For over three days now, most of us here at the IDP camp have been leaving from hand to mouth. No food, water, electricity or good clothes to wear.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of us have lost most of our properties. In this camp, we don\u2019t have access to a good toilet system which is dangerous to our health. The government should as a matter of urgency help us before things get out of hand\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Kogi State Executive Secretary of SEMA, Mouktar Atimah, who was in the company of the NEMA team said the Government is making arrangements to assist those affected by the flood in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy we have not started supplying relief materials to the victims is because we have not completed the documentation and registration of the victims. As soon as that is done, actions would be taken to alleviate their sufferings in the camps\u201d he noted<\/p>\n

Atimah told the IDPs, particularly children and women, who are the most vulnerable, that the state government was aware of their pains.<\/p>\n
