{"id":135008,"date":"2024-10-20T22:29:45","date_gmt":"2024-10-20T21:29:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/police-in-edo-arrest-suspected-killer-of-lagos-uber-driver"},"modified":"2024-10-20T23:31:52","modified_gmt":"2024-10-20T22:31:52","slug":"police-in-edo-arrest-suspected-killer-of-lagos-uber-driver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/police-in-edo-arrest-suspected-killer-of-lagos-uber-driver","title":{"rendered":"Police in Edo arrest suspected killer of Lagos Uber driver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Edo State Police Command has arrested one John Ochekwu Abraham for alleged involvement in the death of Usman Umaru, an Uber driver in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST reports that the Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Moses Joel Yamu, disclosed this on Sunday in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City.<\/p>\n<p>Yamu said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and another person at large simply identified as Ahua or Soldier (real name unknown) snatched the deceased\u2019s vehicle at gunpoint in Lagos on October 11, 2024, resulting in his death.<\/p>\n<p>He said the suspect was arrested by the operatives of Safer Highway and Okpella Division in Etsako East Local Government Area.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the suspect was arrested during a stop-and-search operation by the operatives.<\/p>\n<p>The command\u2019s spokesman said the items recovered from the suspect\u2019s vehicle are one magazine loaded with 18 AK-47 ammunition and one AK-47 rifle found concealed inside the vehicle\u2019s engine compartment.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement: \u201cThe Edo State Police Command is pleased to inform the public of a successful joint operation by the operatives of Safer Highway and Okpella Division, which resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle and a firearm, as well as the arrest of a suspect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring a routine stop and search operation, a silver-coloured Toyota Camry with registration number BDG 17 JK, was intercepted with two occupants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon searching the vehicle, one magazine loaded with 18 AK-47 ammunition and one AK-47 rifle were found concealed inside the vehicle\u2019s engine compartment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, the driver, later identified as Ahua or Soldier, real name unknown, escaped from arrest while the search was going on, leaving one of his gang members, John Ochekwu Abraham, in the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreliminary investigation revealed that the suspects snatched the said vehicle at gunpoint in Lagos on October 11, 2024, resulting in the death of the Uber driver, Usman Umaru.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said an investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Nigeria Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
